Monthly Team Reward: A Shared Recognition Habit + Templates | Karma

Monthly team reward

Once a month, offer a shared reward that the whole team can contribute their karma to. The goal isn't speed, it's getting as many people as possible to join in.

Why it works

Individual rewards are nice, but a shared one turns recognition into something the team does together. Every contribution counts, no matter how much karma a person has, and everyone enjoys the result.

When the focus is on participation, quieter teammates and new hires feel part of it too. And the reward itself becomes a reason to talk about the month together.

How to run it

  1. Choose the reward. Offer 2–3 options and let the team vote: a team lunch, a movie night, a donation to a charity the team picks.
  2. Set it up in Karma. Create a group reward so employees can contribute their karma to it.
  3. Announce it. At the start of the month, explain the reward and invite everyone to contribute.
  4. Share progress mid-month. Post how many people have joined so far, not just how much karma is collected.
  5. Celebrate together. When the month ends, share how many people took part and enjoy the reward as a team.

How Karma helps

Karma's group rewards let employees put their karma together toward one shared goal. Everyone sees the reward and who joined, and nothing needs to be tracked in spreadsheets. Learn more about rewards in Karma.

How to measure

Each month, track:

  • how many employees contributed karma to the reward;
  • what share of the team took part, compared to last month;
  • whether karma activity overall grows during reward months.

Common mistakes

  • Choosing the reward for the team. Let people vote, so they care about the result.
  • Focusing on the amount. Celebrate the number of people who joined, not how fast the goal was reached.
  • Rewards only some people can enjoy. Make sure remote and part-time teammates can take part too.

Frequently asked questions

What if some people have very little karma?

That's fine. Any contribution counts, and the habit is about joining in, not about how much you give.

Should every team have its own reward?

It depends on size. Small companies can have one shared reward, larger ones often do better with one per team.
