Friday karma shower
Every Friday, your team takes 10 minutes to thank everyone who helped them this week. A small habit that ends the week on a good note.

Why it works
During a busy week, most "thanks" stay in people's heads. By Friday, the help you got on Tuesday is easy to forget.
A fixed time removes the effort of remembering. When the whole team gives thanks at once, it feels natural rather than awkward, and quieter teammates join in more easily. And people start the weekend knowing their work was noticed.
How to run it
- Pick a time. Choose a slot on Friday when most of the team is online, for example 3 pm. Put a recurring reminder in your calendar or schedule the message in Slack or Teams.
- Post the kickoff message. Use the template below in your team channel. Keep it short and friendly.
- Go first. Give karma to one or two people yourself and say what exactly they did. Others follow the example.
- Keep it to 10 minutes. It's a quick moment, not a meeting. People reply when they can.
- Rotate the host. Every week or month, let a different teammate post the kickoff. The habit stops depending on one person.

Kickoff message
It's Friday Karma Shower time! Take 2 minutes to thank someone who helped you this week. Reply here with karma and say what they did: a quick review, a good idea, covering a task, staying late to fix a bug. I'll start: karma to [Name] for [what they did].
Shorter version for busy weeks
Friday Karma Shower: who made your week easier? Send them some karma below.
Example of a good thank-you
Karma to [Name] for jumping on the customer call on Wednesday and explaining the integration so clearly. The client signed the next day!
Say what they did and why it mattered. Specific thanks mean more than "great job".
How Karma helps
With Karma, every thank-you in the Friday thread becomes karma tied to one of your company values. The whole team sees it, and nothing gets lost in the chat history. Over time, you see which values show up most in everyday work. Learn more about peer recognition in Karma.
How to measure
After a month, check in Culture analytics:
- how many teammates gave karma on Fridays, and whether this number grows;
- whether people who rarely received karma before now get some;
- which values come up most often in Friday thanks.
If participation drops, try a new host or move the time.
Common mistakes
- Only the manager gives thanks. The habit works when the whole team joins. Ask a teammate to go first now and then.
- Generic "thanks, great week". Encourage people to name the specific help.
- Turning it into a contest. Friday karma shower is about noticing people, not about who collects the most karma.
- Skipping it when things get busy. Busy weeks are exactly when people need it. Use the short version of the message.
Frequently asked questions
What if nobody replies?
Start with your own thanks and tag one or two people who you know will join. It usually takes 2–3 weeks for a new habit to stick.
Can we do it on another day?
Yes. Friday works well because it wraps up the week, but any fixed day works if it suits your team better.
Does it work for remote teams?
Yes, it runs in a channel, so time zones and locations don't matter. Pick a time that overlaps for most of the team.
