When selecting an employee recognition platform for Microsoft Teams, it’s important to understand not just the feature set, but how naturally the tool fits into daily team workflows. If you’re comparing Karma and Wrenly for Microsoft Teams, this guide will help you understand their differences and decide which platform best supports your organization’s culture and recognition goals.
Karma and Wrenly are both designed to improve workplace culture inside Microsoft Teams, but they approach recognition and engagement from very different angles.
Wrenly positions itself as a broad engagement and feedback hub inside Microsoft Teams. Recognition is only one part of the experience, alongside anonymous suggestion boxes, surveys, Q&A tools, performance reviews, whistleblower reporting, and AI-powered insights. To give recognition in Wrenly, users must open the app menu (+ button) in a Teams channel, select Wrenly, and complete a recognition form with values, messages, and optional GIFs. This makes recognition more structured, but also more intentional and form-driven.
Karma, on the other hand, is built around fast, visible, in-the-moment recognition that fits naturally into everyday conversations. Recognition happens directly in Teams channels using trigger keywords, or simple commands — without opening separate menus or modal windows. Karma responds directly in the thread with a customized message or card, keeping appreciation public and easy to engage with.
Another major difference lies in feedback philosophy. Wrenly strongly emphasizes anonymous participation through surveys, suggestion boxes, and AI summaries for leadership. Karma focuses more on social recognition and transparency, encouraging teams to celebrate wins openly and reinforce company values through visible interactions.
From a user experience perspective, Wrenly acts as a centralized hub teams must actively open and interact with, while Karma stays lightweight and embedded in daily workflow, reducing friction and increasing adoption.
Karma is built specifically for Microsoft Teams and requires no additional profiles or passwords. Once installed, users can start recognizing teammates immediately within existing channels, without switching context or navigating external interfaces.
Wrenly is installed via Microsoft Teams and accessed through the app menu in channels. Users interact with features like recognition, surveys, and suggestion boxes by opening the Wrenly interface each time. No separate login is required, but engagement typically happens within the Wrenly hub rather than directly in chat flow.
Karma enables value-based recognition by linking company values to each recognition and organizing leaderboards accordingly, providing greater visibility into contributions that support organizational culture.
Wrenly allows organizations to define company values and associate them with recognitions, surveys, and feedback. These values are primarily used for reporting and leadership insights.
Karma offers flexible reward creation, including team-based and automatic rewards that encourage collaboration. Karma points never expire, allowing employees to save up for meaningful rewards rather than being pressured to redeem quickly.
Wrenly supports a points-based system where employees earn points through recognition, surveys, and feedback participation. These points can be redeemed for rewards, including gift cards, depending on enabled features.
Karma brings recognition directly into Microsoft Teams channels, making appreciation instant and inclusive. By using trigger words and company values, teams can consistently reinforce positive behaviors and shared values.
In Wrenly, recognition is given by opening the app menu in Microsoft Teams, selecting the peer recognition option, choosing recipients, assigning values, and submitting a message. All recognitions are then displayed in a dedicated recognition feed or channel.
In summary, Wrenly is best suited for organizations that prioritize anonymous feedback, structured surveys, AI-driven insights, and centralized engagement reporting within Microsoft Teams.
Karma is a stronger choice for teams that want recognition to feel natural, visible, and social — embedded directly into everyday conversations without added steps or complexity. By reducing friction and keeping appreciation public, Karma helps teams build stronger relationships and sustained recognition habits inside Microsoft Teams.
